Coolden Rose Gold iPhone 6/6s Wallet Case Review

Case Packaging

This review appears in its original form here, and is for this product listing.

Four Stars

Has a useful little money clip, but a bit too bulky.

Inside the Amazon box, this item was packaged in a clear-fronted, retail style resealable plastic packet. The case was rubberised on the inside, for shock protection, in what seemed to be a two-layered fashion, with harder rose gold sections providing additional protection.

The rubber is very soft and pliable, but the plastic just feels a bit cheap, and has an imprint towards the bottom of the back which really doesn’t do the design any favours. There is a deep cutout in the back, for the camera / flash, along with a clip on the back to hold notes or credit cards. This section adds to the thickness of the case around the phone, and I’m not sure it’s worth it. All iPhone 6 and 6s devices use Apple Pay, so you wouldn’t want to put a contactless card in there, but just to slip a card and a note in there for immediate use – nipping into a shop maybe, it’s really handy. All the other ports are there, and in the right place, nothing is difficult to get to, even the mute button.

All corners and sides are perfectly protected, and there’s a slight protrusion at the front to protect your screen if laid face down. The lightning cable fits perfectly through the hole in the case to the port, but it should be noted that if you use a 30-pin to lightning adapter, you’ll need to remove the case as the bottom is fully protected and the adapter just won’t fit.

The colour is very close to a rose gold iPhone, but it’s almost as if the plastic has been spray painted – it just adds to the cheap feel of the case as a whole. It’s also difficult to judge the market, the rose gold means that men are unlikely to want it, but the bulk and quite visible blackness of the rubber section mean it won’t really appeal to women. The saving grace of this item is that it really will protect your phone from drops and scratches – it’s clearly been designed to be very rugged and protective.

I think the money / card clip is quite handy, but the bulk and finish could certainly be improved. If you like the clip, and need a rugged, strong case, then this one should definitely come high on your list.
