Free parking *may* help to keep our town centre alive

This past weekend, I submitted my first letter to the editor of our local newspaper, “The Rotherham Advertiser“. I’m not sure if it will be published, but the text is:

Give us free parking, and we will come.

Reading the [email protected] pages over the last few weeks, I’ve been seeing more and more references to Tesco’s parking fiasco and the death of the town centre. Each time I’ve frustratedly yelled “But the issue is that the council aren’t providing free parking!”. After another rant this week, I turned the page to see Graves finally headline the requirement. VicTop 3.5mm FM Transmitter Review

Neat little design, still good if you use a case!

This item arrived in a nicely designed, solid cardboard, printed protective box. The box opened nicely to show a well laid out interior, with the transmitter protected in a plastic packet, with plastic sheets protecting the glossy front and back of the unit. Inside the box were the unit itself, a micro-USB cable, and a car cigarette lighter USB power adapter, along with a basic instruction manual.

I think it’s a nice touch that the power plug has a standard USB socket, so you can use it to either power your phone, or power the device. The device has a battery, and there is a battery level indicator in the display, so you can use it without it being constantly plugged in.

KoolZone Car Windshield and Side Window Shades Review

Really great Windscreen shield, interesting side shades!

This is really two separate items, the windscreen sun shield, and the side window shades. All the items came in a single, large, zip sealable plastic bag, with the side shades in their own smaller version of the bag, inside the larger one. The windscreen shield was in its own handy pouch, inside a protective plastic packet, inside the main zipping bag.

When you pull the windscreen shield out of its pouch, and let the hoops pop back into their normal shape, it’s BIG. You can see why it’s universal, because it’s both huge, and when you overlap the hoops, it can be small to fit smaller windscreens. It’s a shame there’s no basic instruction reminders on how to reset the hoops to their smaller sizes, but I’ve had similar beach mats and tents, so have the hang of just twisting them like a screw to shrink them down again.

VicTop BlueTooth Car FM Transmitter Review

The best bluetooth receiver / FM transmitter I’ve used!

This item arrived in a nice, glossy, retail style box. Inside the box were the unit itself, an instruction manual, and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack cable (decent length). The item can take input via blutooth (including music), the jack plug, or an SD card, meaning you have lots of ways to get audio via your radio.

The car power socket plug is connected to the unit via a short “swan neck” type stalk, that can be twisted into various shapes, so you can angle the device to suit your particular placement or vehicle. The colours and glossy finish suggest this is a really high quality device, as does the nicely backlit LCD screen. I love that the power plug has a USB socket at the front, so you can still charge your phone whilst using the device as a hands free kit.

Nice little unit – wish it could play music over Bluetooth!

This item arrived in a retail packet, with white back and clear front, showing the packet contents, which were the device itself, a nice little 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack lead, a spare fuse, and a simple instruction leaflet.

The car power socket plug is connected to the device using a swan-neck type stalk, so you can angle the device to suit your particular placement or vehicle – it holds the unit very stable. The colours and glossy finish suggest this is a really high quality device, as does the nicely backlit LCD screen. I love that the device has a USB socket on the side, so you can still charge your phone whilst using the device as a hands free kit.
